January 2025: The Eaton Fire torched homes, schools, instruments, studios, records, and businesses. It sucked.

Out of the ashes, Altadena Musicians was formed. A charity with a mission to bring music back to our community: one guitar, one piano, one concert at a time. AM has distributed nearly $2 million worth of donated gear to local musicians and schools so far — more than 850 guitars alone… and more accordions than you’d expect. Sorry about that.

But here’s the thing: it wasn’t just the old guard who needed the support. It was the kids. Young people with nowhere to play, no money for gear, and no safe spaces to scream their lungs out. They don’t want Zoom lessons or charity. They want to make noise, leave their mark, tell their stories, and blow the roof off before their mom comes to pick them up at 10.

What started as a few scorched-earth backyard gigs has turned into a small but growing music scene.

We’re giving that scene a home.

There is no independent, affordable, accessible all-ages venue on this side of one of the largest entertainment cities in the world.

That’s ridiculous.

Countless young musicians are just starting to find their voices, form bands, and are screaming into the void. They want to play, watch, support, and be part of a real music scene.

We’re building a safe space, a real stage, a supportive community, and a reality where live music isn’t novelty or a $1,000 stadium ticket — it’s an identity and an opportunity.

This isn’t a guest list. This is a house key.

In the late ’70s, Pasadena became known for its epic backyard shows with killer unknown acts. One of those local bands? Mammoth — later and better known as Van Halen. They went from keg-parties to arenas, but the DNA never left these foothills.

“Backyard parties” became THE launchpad for SoCal rock & punk for decades. Loud, sweaty, (occasionally illegal), awesome.

Scenes formed outside of clubs & gatekeepers.Fanzines like Flipside documented and transmitted the DIY spirit from Pasadena to the world.

We’re reviving the tradition. Same place. Same energy. New generation.
